About Me
Gwen interview with UK TV Hits
TVH: You're pretty much a superstar now, did you always know you'd be famous?
GS: I never expected to be here! When I was asked at school what I'd like to be when I grew up, I just knew I wanted to be a bride. I'd draw pictures of me in a wedding dress!

TVH: And you finally got married...
GS: Yes - and I got the dress! It was amazing, Gavin and I got married in London, went to Capri for our honeymoon and then had a second ceremony in Los Angeles. The dress I wore was the whole reason I had another wedding!

TVH: We heard you were a bit naughty when you were a kid?
GS: (Laughs) No, I wasn't a bad girl, I just found it hard to learn. I couldn't pay attention. It wasn't till I had graduated from high school that I started writing songs.

TVH: What kind of music were you into growing up?
GS: I loved all kinds of music, especially all the 80s stuff. Ska music was huge and I loved The Specials, Madness, Depeche Mode and The Cure. Then I got into dance music. I love classic pop too, Madonna and Prince were massive influences. Everything I've ever listened to inspired me to write Love, Angel, Music, Baby!

TVH: Do you find it easy to write such cool songs?
GS: I've never been a creative writer. I usually write about whatever's happening at the time, so it's usually a love thing or an argument. I realy want to be one of those writers where things naturally come to them. Sadly it doesn't, but by working with other cool artists, it's getting easier.

TVH: Do you think you'll have some mini Stefani's running around soon?
GS: At some point I'd love to have a family, but right now I'm concentrating on my new album. My sister has just had a ridiculously cute little baby, so I can play auntie for a while before I have any kids of my own.

TVH: We think you'd be a wicked mum!
GS: I'd love to be a mum one day. I was thinking that when I have children I should always dress up as a character for them, so they'd think their mum was Alice in Wonderland or Cinderella. That would be totally messed up!

TVH: Talking of dressing up, you're a huge style icon now - where do you get your ideas?
GS: I love the 40s and all the Hollywood glamour of that period really inspires my look, but I haven't always been so outrageous. When I was younger I desperately wanted to dye my hair blonde but I was nervous of what people would think. Then I went for it and never looked back, same with my ideas - whatever goes!

TVH: Didn't you ever consider a career in fashion design?
GS: I studied a degree in Art and I loved it, I love making all my own clothes. I spend hours dying fabric and drawing new ideas for my own label, L.A.M.B, but music was my first passion. it's great that I am able to do both.

TVH: We here you're launching some funky footwear in your range?
GS: Yeah, I'm really excided to be adding a colection of L.A.M.B sneakers to my closet. We've also got some exciting new bags and a whole new collection about to launch, so t's all very busy right now.

TVH: Have you got any more movies lined up?
GS: I'd love to do some more films at some point, but it's not a priority for me right now. I'm so busy with the fashion stuff and promoting my new album, so I really need to concentrate on those. Plus I only had a cameo role in The Aviator, so I don't think I'll be taking up any big movie roles for a while. There is still plenty of time for that!

TVH: So, do you think No Doubt will make a comeback one day?
GS: Well, y'know we'd been touring non-stop for years and we knew it was time for a break. I'd been in No Doubt for 17 years! Then Gavin and I got married, Tom got engaged and Adrian and his wife had their first baby, so everything started changing. We were so committed to each other for so long, then suddenly we were all growing up. For the moment, we haven't made any plans but watch this space - I don't think it's the end just yet.
